Dear Friends of Tucson Youth Music,
Hello and thank you for visiting Tucson Youth Music!
We invite you to explore our website, and take few minutes to celebrate TYM’s amazing students, teachers, and programs.
Children who study music:
o Perform better in school.
o Engage more thoughtfully and cooperatively with others.
o Are more likely to graduate from high school.
o Are more culturally aware.
o Have better impulse control.
o Have an enhanced sense of self-confidence.
Research confirms that music education improves brain function and socialization.
Music students are better prepared for college or post-secondary training.
Our teachers are highly accomplished musicians, educators, and mentors.
Tucson Youth Music is the custodian to more than 500 instruments in our inventory. We are grateful to those who think of TYM when it’s time to give an instrument a new home.
TYM focuses on three primary programs.
ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING: AFTER-SCHOOL MUSIC LESSONS.
TYM delivers more than 50 after-school music education and life skills development classes each week during the school year in two Tucson locations: 830 E. 17th Street and at the Tucson Mall.
Enrollment each year is between 200–300 under-resourced students, ages six to 18.
The average age of an after-school TYM student is nine years old – a great age to learn a new language (music!).
Students choose among a variety of instruments and classes, including Piano, Guitar, Violin, Cello, Flute, Saxophone, Trumpet, Harp, Drums, Marimba & Bells, Chorus, and Composition.
2024 marked the third year of our Summer Music Program, which attracts another 130 young learners to make music with TYM.
In the fall of 2024, TYM launched a groundbreaking partnership with the Tucson Police Department and Sunnyside Unified School District. This Collaboration is a music-based mentoring, music immersion, and life skills program, designed to create life-changing opportunities for underserved youth.
Each music lesson taught, every note played, and every friendship formed is a testament to the dedication of individuals like you—our donors, volunteers, and partners.
Your commitment helps drive our mission forward, provides vital private funding, and empowers TYM to serve our community and Tucson’s most vulnerable children.
Our accomplishments are your accomplishments. Please accept our sincere thanks for your support.
Best regards,
