September 2022
Greetings from the Tucson Youth Music Center,
This summer, we decided to do something different!
TYMC held its first-ever Summer Music Education Program. For eight weeks in June and July, more than 130 students came to class three days a week. This new program had our students bucket drumming one day and experimenting with recorders the next. Students were visited by guest musicians, connected music to different cultures, explored music theory, and participated in improv and ensemble settings. As is our tradition, all Summer Program students were also welcome to sing in the Chorus.
It was truly inspiring to see our students “play” over the summer!
In a blink, the Summer Program was over and just a few days ago, we held our Parent and Teacher Orientation. Nearly 100 parents, teachers and students gathered to hear about classes and schedules for the coming year.
Enrollment is projected to be up by 10 percent!
TYMC’s expansion is thrilling. As more and more families hear about our program, enrollment continues to rise. It is wholly gratifying. It is also costly.
So, while our students are sharpening their musical abilities, I hope I can count on each of you to sharpen your pencils and include a gift to TYMC in your financial plans.
Your support is so important. In order for us to be able to provide music instruction to increasing numbers of students, and to offer more musical opportunities like the Summer Music Program, we need partners in the private sector. We can’t do it without you.
Thank you for considering a gift to TYMC. Together, we are delivering the life-transforming power of music education. Many thanks for your kind consideration.
On behalf of the children at the Tucson Youth Music Center,
I send best regards,
Dana Wier
